Stephen's stone
had been broken (crack across middle).
Someone has repaired it.
Stephen Subra was born circa 1801 in France. He emigrated to the United States in 1832, married Frances Bera (also from France) in 1837.
They settled in the Cape Vincent, NY area, and had 7 children (John, Frances, Stephen, Mary, Baptiste, Ann, Julia).
The family moved to Fond du Lac County, WI in the spring of 1862. Stephen died there on 27 Sep 1868. He was preceded in death by at least two sons: Baptiste, who apparently died between 1850 & 1860, and John, who was killed in combat fighting for the Union army in Dallas, Georgia, 31 May 1864.
